We Are Made of the Same (2026) Trailer
We Are Made of the Same is the latest multi-media project by Zoe Paterson Macinnes, in collaboration with photographer Siggy Stansfield.
The project includes an original film poem written, filmed and edited by Zoe, featuring archival recordings of past islanders in Great Bernera, who speak of the old villages in Bosta that were cleared. The voices are juxtaposed by a masked performance of a figure standing as part of the land as they hope to return to sea, a truer form of themselves.
The mask was created from a sheep bone found by the shore. The figure represents the changes and static of the place, as it ebbs and flows with life and death.
The photographs of the figure, by Siggy Stansfield, showcase the figure fixed in time, in the same way the archival recordings present a fixed record of the islands history.
